Toolbox session 4
During this session we were asked to create collages using our museum images and make illustrations using the cut outs. This session was a design aimed session which made a little nervous because it is not my strongest point.
For the museum images I chose structures as much inspiration because they have a fixed shape which pointed out the term ‘stability’ to me and I wanted to include that in my project. I also included a few painting and trophies so as to add some colour in my work.
I used these images to make three fashion illustrations. I followed the lines and structural ending to cut shapes. This session was a little difficult for me to work in because garment making is something I find interesting yet a little though to work with. But it also allowed me to experiment with different colours and shaped and make my own style in those illustrations. The illustration I made had elements that I like to use in my work, like, puffed sleeves and flowing garments.
We then were also asked to do pencil drawings of our illustrations and construct them in different ways following the same idea. I was able to draw a few ideas and I found it interesting to follow yet the same idea yet creating different styles with it. It helped me in exploring different aspects of the same dress idea.
Initially through this session I struggled a bit but I was able to work it out in the end and found it interesting to work with. The designs that I created during the class were visualised keeping ready to wear in mind yet had a royal theme. I used the asian royalty as a reference for the project and hence used the idea of loosely flowing dresses and puffed up sleeves. I liked the Idea of experimenting with different shapes and prints yet kept the illustrations simple.
